OK, seriously, this dude is a nutjob. And I am not at all pleased that his bio prominently identifies him as a progressive - makes the rest of us look kooky by association.

Repeat after me: The Afghan war in the 1980s is not a good source of inspiration for formulating China policy in 2008. Keep repeating until you get a clue.
