January 15, 2008|

People’s Daily reports:

China selected its top 10 important Internet-related events and publicized the list on Monday, disclosing that the number of Chinese netizens exceeded 200 million.

What were they?

    - #10 through 8 weren’t specified

    - #7 Self-discipline code for blog services by the Internet Society of China

    - #6 Anti-spam site from the Internet Society of China

    - #5 10 departments crack down on online pornography, with arrests

    - #4 210 million internet users in China

    - #3 First broadcast of the National People’s Congress

    - #2 National internet culture and management work conference in June

And the number 1, most important, internet event of 2007?

    - #1 The Central Committee proposed new requirements for internet construction and management

Who comes up with these things, anyways?

The selection was sponsored by the Internet Society of China and Internet News Research Center with the guidance of the Information Office of the State Council.

I don’t even know where to begin.
